While physical tackles and collisions between players are inevitable, there are ways in which Rugby players can reduce the impact. There is no substitute for proper training and technique to prevent injuries, however there are some types of protective equipment that players can wear to reduce the risk.
Mouth Guards
A mouthguard is designed to protect the teeth and gums from injury during contact sports. Rugby players should wear a properly fitting mouthguard to prevent dental injuries such as chipped or knocked out teeth, as well as injuries to the tongue and lips.
Scrum Caps
Rugby scrum caps are designed to protect the head and ears from impact during tackles and collisions. Scrum caps can also provide some protection against cuts and abrasions to the head and face. However, it is important to note that headgear is not a substitute for proper tackling technique and should not be relied upon to prevent concussions.
